Does anyone who know who makes a model, preferably in HO scale, of a World War I French Box car known as a 40 & 8. Called that because it would carry 40 men or 8 horses. |

I'm pretty sure the Continental Toddler did an article on this vehicle- because I remember the title- "40 Hommes, 8 Chavauex(however it's spelt )", the vans took this very literal designation as their "Class" so-to-speak. Unfortunately I can't remember WHICH CM, but if there's an Archive search available anywhere it should turn it up. Probably from the 1990's anyway. _________________ What is this thing called "Spare Time"...?? |

Thanks, mauricejg18704, for posting my inquiry here.
I am looking for at least one HO model "40 & 8" boxcar to display on a layout of famous post-WWII American trains at our local Veterans Medical Center during Memorial Day weekend in late May, 2008. Planned running models on display will be the 1947 Friendship Train, the 1947-1949 Freedom Train, and the 1949 Merci Train, all of which visited our area in Ohio during those years. Many of our aged WW II veterans and their families (including new generations of veterans) have very special memories of these trains.
Thanks again, _________________ Dave

Update: REE and LS French modeling companies now offer the 40 & 8 cars described as OCEM 19 couvert wagons in several French road names and colors. _________________ Dave
