The UE units needed a slight mod to make them go round sharper curves, but I use the Fleischmann 25cm radius track and they don't like that(many bigger and older steam locos willl go round, so sometimes wonder if hobby has gone backwards).
I have tried various other bogie diesels and only chassis that works is the Japanese tram ones I mentioned, which unfortunately are no longer available.

For trams many want tight curves. My tram track goes down to 20cm radius(inner circle), which is recommended minimum.

Halling do some nice motor units. not cheap. http://www.halling.at/en/Accessories/Drives

Will try anything once, looking for the ultimate easy to set up portable exhibition layout, preferably French narrow gauge and with lots going on, not necessary on the rails.
