I'm lucky - I have one living right opposite me! He's right in his element, as is Mercedes, the polar bear who has been moved from Edinburgh to the Highland Wildlife Park at Kingussie, and is really enjoying herself

I think we also should show some appreciation of our Editor, in the circumstances of the UK as are reported, in getting MTI86 to the post office. Thank you, Chris.

Red cover. Laughing

Arrived this morning. Not had chance to read it yet properly though. This is turning into a really hectic month, I'll be glad when it's the 25th...

Incidentally there's an exhibition missing off page 391. It was in issue 85 (page 363) but, as that's a couple of months ago now, I'll give it another plug. Wink

Details here.

Arrived in Inverness this morning, looks interesting as always - we have a break with tradition, a mug shot of the editor and his new pal one James May who appears to be on a one man mission to make trains "cool"

Chris also pops up in James May's toy stories book!

Yes, that must be a first!! Ever since Model Trains #1 Jan 1980 we have seen inumerable pictures of our esteemed Editor's hands, (very often shown plunging his infamous razor saw through various models!!) but an actual portrait... Shocked and in such company... is James May a subscriber to MTI now?!? Laughing

Mine arrived today, too. I was expecting at least Tuesday or even Wednesday.

Haven't had time for much reading yet - trying to get ahead with a new baseboard.

Yes nice to see the Editor's face for once, and that the world of celebrity has moved into even our hobby. If it sells train sets then its fine by me.
I am sure that moving from 'naff'(?) to 'cool' would sell a lot to the next generation of modellers.

But hold on its not just the editors hands (and arms) that have graced ST/SMT/MTI at various points. I seem to recall some mystery female hands (and arms) in the early years. Can other readers remember or identify them?

I seem to recall an Editorial Assistant named Helen Jerome back in the days when the magazine had a red top. She wrote a pair of articles about the Redruth & Chacewater Railway c.1972 or thereabouts. Is that the right period for your mystery hands?

You could be right, and the name rings a bell too. There was also a picture of her holding one of Chris's early folding baseboards.....a brunette too, during the Scale Trains era.

Cheers

Among the various young ladies were Christine Lake, Heather Rawlings (now Scott), and Helen Jerome, but the hands belong to a lady called Jane(? surname lost in the mists of time.)
