|
|
There has been quite a change to the OO scale module (above) which Nick Palette donated to Cheshire Railway Modellers following our 2009 show.
The view from a higher angle shows that the scenery has changed somewhat...
... as has the scale, it's now On30, and the module has gained a station.
At the other end from the station a clump of palm trees breaks up the outline of the hole in the sky.
The buildings need bedding in, there's still some work to do on the bridge and the scrub still needs beefing up a bit to make it better suited to the larger scale, but the module is now definitely part of the Ferrocarril Internacional.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Rio Paleta!

Cheers Andy. Both diecasts, Fiat minibus on Life-Like 040 diesel chassis and Jeep FC-150 on an HO scale wagon chassis, they look good as a mismatched pair of home-made autoferros.
The FCPyF also runs a Bussing bus as a single unit and a Thornycroft bus paired with a Ford freight motor.

The Büssing unit is very similar to the one the old Amstetten line (near Ulm) used for a while. I've seen apicture of it being turned on a turntable, but it was unfortunately retired and scrapped after an accident on a crossing. It was turned at each end of the line (with help from passengers) on a tiny turntable just a few cm longer than the railcar's wheelbase, and as this was hidden by grass it must have made for an interesting sight.
Time for bed, flying to Japan again tomorrow... _________________ Andy in Germany

I have done some more work on the module today. The bridge now crosses a dry river bed, it has not rained for a while and the countryside is drying out rapidly.
I may have chance to go to B&Q tomorrow, in which case Pio Paleta will get a fixed backboard, but in the meantime I've borrowed Asilo's backboard for these photos which were taken while making the best of the evening sunshine to dry out the sand in the riverbed.
Traditional for my layouts is the driver's eye view. In the case of Rio Paleta I have taken one in each direction but I can't decide which I prefer so I've posted both here.
Note the bit of sand on the track, a close up photo doesn't half pick out the faults, this loose lump of scenery had become dislodged as I carried the module outside and has now been removed. :
Definitely no fish in this river!
An aerial view.
And a photo which will not be possible to take once the backboard is attached.

Bob,
Thanks for your message. Sadly I don't think I'll be free for Northampton, but will keep my eye on the dates just in case.
Meanwhile here's a shot from my past effort in 0n30, Alcudia. The water tank was based on a Mallorcan prototype and has a little pump house at one end. The spout was a couple of bits of styrene tube mitred together and the hose was from a piece of soft paper, rolled and glued. Sorry the railcar has got in the way.
As you say, it's a grand scale - I really wish I'd kept the layout, as I really enjoyed building the rolling stock.
Giles

That's nice Giles, but don't you think old photos look better in sepia tones?

Much better, and thanks for adding the extra foreground. A great improvement to the composition. It all seems a long time ago before Peco got colour in the magazines and I was still using b&w film!

|
|
This afternoon I have connected Asilo, the traverser and Rio Paleta together to run the first train on the Sierra Oculta division of the Ferrocarril Internacional. It may be some time before the link is finally made with the more northern sections (next January at the CRM exhibition in Crewe) but I am looking forward to it!
Direct link.
When the next section, Sin Nombre, is added to the line up too I'll have to take over the kitchen as well as the front room. _________________ Bob Hughes

There's another section of the modular layout functioning now. I've not tried connecting it up the the others yet but it has had a solo test run as can be seen on YouTube. _________________ Bob Hughes
